Coinciding with World Architecture Day and the upcoming International Congress of Archives, the Historical Archive of the COAC, the General Archive of the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, and the Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona propose an itinerary that links architecture and archival documents, showcasing both buildings and related documentation of Barcelona constructions ranging from the Roman era to the modernity of the 1960s.
The itinerary will begin at the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, where visitors will be able to view the interior of the Royal Shipyards from the lookout point. Participants will also see original blueprints from the 1930s, when the creation of the museum was being planned. The second stop will be at the Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona, located in the Casa de l’Ardiaca, right in front of the COAC. There, a short visit will be made to some of the building’s most emblematic spaces, and documents related to its history will be presented. Finally, the route will conclude at the Historical Archive of the COAC, where the original plans from the first and second design competitions, along with the winning project for the construction of the building, will be shown. The visit will include a tour of the Sala Picasso, and will end with access to the terrace.
Through this initiative, the three institutions aim to highlight the importance of architecture not only as built heritage, but also as memory preserved in archives.
Prior registration is required, as capacity is limited.
