As part of the fiftieth anniversary of the monument to Francesc Pujols, located in front of the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the Friends of the Dalí Museums Association is presenting a new exhibition that explores the profound intellectual and artistic relationship between Salvador Dalí and the Catalan philosopher.
The exhibition features rich visual and textual documentation, including previously unseen photographs of the monument’s construction process, original sketches by Dalí, lithographs dedicated to Pujols, and unique audiovisual materials such as the 1956 film capturing a meeting between Dalí and Pujols at the Torre de les Hores. This film, rediscovered by expert Josep Playà, offers valuable insight into the intellectual complicity shared by the two figures.
In addition to providing broad historical and artistic context, the exhibition highlights the influence of Hiparxiology, the philosophical system created by Francesc Pujols, on Dalí’s universe. Concepts such as ultralocal thought, the synthesis of science, religion, and art, and the affirmation of Catalan identity as a path to universality positioned Pujols as a key figure in understanding Dalí’s thought.
Curated by Max Pérez and coordinated by Eneida Iglesias and Carles Ayats, the exhibition underscores not only Dalí’s sculptural legacy but also Pujols’ essential contributions to Catalan philosophy and twentieth-century European thought.
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to rediscover the imprint of Francesc Pujols on Dalí’s imagination and to understand how the monument in front of the Dalí Theatre-Museum is much more than a sculpture: it is a true allegory of philosophy carved in stone.
